The God Box: Sharing My Mother's Gift of Faith, Love, and Letting Go by Mary Lou Quinlan;
The God Box is truly hard to read without tears swelling up in your eyes. I had to put the book down a few times and collect myself. It is not a sad book, but a book of one Mother's love of God, her family, and friends. As a mother and a daughter myself, I can relate.
Mary Lou Quinlan, the author of the book shares her findings of 10 boxes her Mother had placed notes in throughout the years. These petitions that her Mother had written down on a variety of pieces of paper and placed in a decorative box as a note to God. From good health requests to asking troubles to be calmed Mary's mother wrote them all down on paper and put them in The God Box.
After Mary's Mother passes away she discover the boxes and in this book she shares the hand written petitions. On the slips of paper her mother asks God for comfort her family, keep them, well, help them find jobs, sell houses and so much more. The notes share 20 years of this families lives.
A mother's love can whisk away the pain of an injury or illness,share the excitement of a first job, but how does her mother deal with worry? Mary Finlayson, Mary's mother, has stashed away all these worries, and cares, and more in The God Box.
The book, The God Box is so perfect for anyone, because we all have a Mom. I recommend you buy it and give it to your Mother, or daughter this Mother's Day. It IS the absolutely perfect Mother's Day gift.
The God Box is a book, you can read it and hold it in your hands, but what the book gives you is a way to deal with worry and stress you don't have to hold onto. I've already ordered more copies for gifts.
