Remember the Happy Meal Chefs Contest? Well the winners have been announced! Head over to McDonald's USA and see the winners.

McDONALD’S USA NAMES TWO YOUNG CHEFS TO HELP IN NEW HAPPY MEAL CREATION AND TESTING
Inspiring Family Mealtime Stories Earn Happy Meal Chefs Contest Winners Apprenticeship with McDonald’s Executive Chef and Trip to the London 2012 Olympic Games
OAK BROOK, lll. (June 26, 2012) – Sarah Ralston, 11, of New Albany, Ohio, and Elayna Saley, 8, of Salt Lake City, Utah, recently whipped up winning stories of nutritious family mealtime fun to become McDonald’s two Happy Meal Chefs.  In their new honorary roles, the young chefs will work alongside McDonald’s Executive Chef Dan Coudreaut helping in the creation and testing of new, nutrition-minded Happy Meal choices in a one-of-a-kind apprenticeship this fall.

“I’ve always loved mealtime with my family, whether we’re cooking at home or picking up Chicken McNuggets after my gymnastic meets,” said Ralston. “For me, it’s all about having choices and I already have some ideas for the Happy Meal.”

The contest, which launched in March as part of McDonald’s new Happy Meal campaign that aims to help make nutrition fun for kids, also awarded the winning parent and child teams a trip to the London 2012 Olympic Games. Ralston, Saley and eight Happy Meal Chefs contest finalists will join kids from around the world to celebrate balanced eating and fun play as part McDonald’s Global Champions of Play program. All Champions of Play will have the exclusive privilege of meeting and playing with Olympic athletes, in addition to attending sporting events and participating in cooking activities that promote balanced eating.

“I loved how Sarah and Elayna uniquely illustrated their passion for cooking balanced meals with their families,” said Coudreaut. “I can’t wait to collaborate with them and see how they’ll inspire our Happy Meal innovation.”

Saley and her father showed how their kitchen turned diner makes mealtime fun and interactive for everyone, mixing in foods from the USDA’s MyPlate recommended food groups as “secret ingredients.” Ralston and her mother together incorporated balance and good choices throughout a full day of exercising, grocery shopping and making meals full of colorful fruits and veggies.

Open to parents and guardians with kids ages 8 to 11, the Happy Meal Chefs contest asked participants to submit a brief questionnaire and a short video online that creatively showcased their family mealtime. McDonald’s encouraged participants to learn about and feature recommended food groups from the USDA’s MyPlate, the balanced-eating symbol based on federal dietary guidelines. A panel of experts specializing in food, nutrition and physical activity including five-time U.S. Olympic swimmer and Global Champions of Play Ambassador Dara Torres judged the contest entries.

“I was so impressed by all 10 finalists and even got a few ideas that I know will be a hit with my family,” said Torres. “Amongst all the entries, Sarah and Elayna stood out to me. They showed how creativity, teamwork and fun are the winning ingredients to making their mealtime special.”

The Happy Meal Chefs contest and the new Happy Meal campaign supports McDonald’s “Commitments to Offer Improved Nutrition Choices,” announced July 2011. For more information on the contest and to view the 10 finalists’ entries, visit https://happymealchefs.mcdonalds.com/.

Tiny Prints Summer Party Invitations Giveaway

Here in my area of the country the kids have been out of school just one week!  June is almost over! We have been to several graduation parties and a few more are scheduled on the calendar.  It's always nice to send or receive a formal invitaion to an event. I don't mean like wedding event "formal", but an invitaiton  that is sent out by the host.

It makes your guest feel a bit more "invited" when you  recive a printed invitaion as opposed to saying "hey we are having a party want to come over?" Then later you are wondering:  what day did she say or what time, are we supposed to bring something? I like having the invitaiton from the host family  so I can put it on the fridge and my family members don't have to ask me the same questions about the party ten times! Like what day is the party, what time is the party, where are we going?!
I like Tiny Prints for invitations, I have used their inviatations and greeting cards in the past and do get compliments on the quality and design of the invitations. The invitation is more that a card with the details , it's a personal invitation to your guest.

So this Summer if you are a having a paty, a cook out or a get together, check out Tiny Prints! Check out thier invitaions for all occassions. From birthday parties, baby showers, graduations, BBQ's or a good ole' Summer Party to celabrate Schools Out they have you covered.

Tiny Prints wants to give one lucky winner 25 party invitations you chose.   Nice right!   Head over to Tiny Prints and tell me which invitations  you like best for your party - in the comment section of this post.

New Clips from BRAVE. In theaters now!

Disclosure: Images and Clips provided by Walt Disney and Pixar.

BRAVE opens in Theaters today. My thoughts on the screening.

Last night I went to the movie theater for the Screening of the new movie from Disney Pixar BRAVE.  I waited in line with many eager patrons. Luckily the theater allowed us to line up inside and not stay outside in the 100 degree weather.  I was glad for that.

We eventually filled the theater seats and waited for the movie to begin. It did start about a half hour after the time it was scheduled for. It was already 7:30 PM.

OK, so the movie began!  We had our 3D glasses on! The main character-Merida is the daughter of the Queen. She has a head of red hair that is full of fluff and curls.  She has three little brothers, also red heads,  that get into all kinds of trouble through out the movie. but prove to be at her side when she needs them to help her.

Her father gives her a Bow and Arrow for her birthday. She loves to head out into the woods and practice on her day off from being a princess.
Merida has her own thoughts of becoming the next Queen, she is skilled with her bow and arrow and can ride a horse through the woods like lightning. You'll have to see the movie to find out how important her skills are in the time of need.

The film has great music and lots of humor scenes. You might want to look over the glossary before you buy your ticket to the film, because there are a handful of words you might not be familiar with!

BRAVE shows us how Mother's want the best for their daughter's, but daughter's may not want to go that path.  There is conflict, there is resolution and there is love in BRAVE.

It's a great Summer Movie!

Disclosure: I was invited to the screening of Brave in order to write this review. The comments and views are my own.

Farm Bill & SNAP Overview:
• This spring and summer, members of Congress will be working on the reauthorization of the Farm Bill, legislation that provides funding for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps, and the largest nutrition program in the Farm Bill.
• SNAP helps struggling families buy more food and fresh vegetables to feed their kids.
• SNAP faces potentially devastating cuts in the Farm Bill. These cuts could reduce, or even eliminate, millions of Americans’ access to SNAP benefits, forcing families across the country to go hungry.
• SNAP also provides important economic benefits to communities across the country. For every SNAP dollar spent, $1.79 is returned to the economy. As our economy slowly begins to recover, now is not the time to cut programs that help local businesses and families.
• A family of 4 making less than $23,000 net income qualifies for SNAP.
Quick Hunger Facts:
• 1 in 5 kids in America doesn’t get enough to eat.
• Nearly 50% of SNAP participants are children.
• More than 46 million Americans – a majority of whom are seniors, children, or people with disabilities - rely on SNAP to feed their families.
• The average monthly SNAP benefit = $1.48 per meal
• More than two-thirds of the funds in the most recent Farm Bill help feed these hungry kids through Federal Nutrition Programs.

New Trailer from WRECK IT Ralph

Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy®-winning director Rich Moore (TV’s “The Simpsons,” “Futurama”) take moviegoers on a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping journey in “Wreck-It Ralph.” Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly, “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,” “Step Brothers”) is tired of being overshadowed by Fix-It Felix (voice of Jack McBrayer, “30 Rock”), the “good guy” star of their game who always gets to save the day. But after decades doing the same thing andseeing all the glory go to Felix, Ralph decides he’s tired of playing the role of a bad guy.  He takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a game-hopping journey across the arcade through every generation of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero.

On his quest, he meets the tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch, TV’s “Glee”) from the first-person action game Hero’s Duty. But it’s the feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman, “The Sarah Silverman Program”) from the candy-coated cart racing game, Sugar Rush, whose world is threatened when Ralph accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens the entire arcade.  Will Ralph realize his dream and save the day before it’s too late?              “Wreck-It Ralph” crashes onto the big screen on November 2, 2012, in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters

"Brave" Scottish Words to learn for the film

A story set in Scotland would be jiggery pokery without its share of Scottish words and phrases. And crivens, “Brave” has plenty! But it would all be for naught unless accompanied by a proper glossary, so here goes…

GIANT HAVING A JIGGER IN THE BLUEBELLS

Similar to Dancing Tatty Bogle, something that’s absurd or fantastical

HAGGIS

Though some will joke that a haggis is a small animal native to Scotland, it is actually a traditional Scottish pudding made with sheep’s heart, liver and lungs, encased in a sheep’s stomach and cooked for several hours. Often served with “neeps and tatties" (turnips and potatoes).

HIGHLAND GAMES

Festivals that celebrate Scottish and Celtic culture and heritage, especially that of the Scottish Highlands. Includes competitions in piping and drumming, dancing, archery, caber tossing, stone put and other Scottish athletics, plus entertainment and exhibits.

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted opens today!

On Saturday morning last week I watched Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted in a screening with a theater full of Moms, Dads, and kids. The line was long to get into the theater, luckily I was on the front of the line and was on a list for blogger to get into the theater.

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted film is fast moving and full of color. I viewed the film in 3D, I kinda like that type of viewing.

So today the movie opens in theaters everywhere! Pack up the kids and go see it!  Those characters are cute, lively and smart. I love the penguins who are the engineers of all things mechanical.

Why are they Europe's Most Wanted? You'll have to watch the entire film to see why!

I am just back from viewing Dirty Dancing on the big screen in conjunction with Skinny Cow. What a great movie, dancing, love, music, and the mountain house. How about that relaxing looking lake!

Skinny Cow is helping Dirty Dancing celebrate their 25th anniversary. When we arrived at the event we signed in and were given the opportunity to take our photo with the skinny cow backdrop. Then we got to try the Skinny Cow Ice cream as we waited for the movie to begin. I'll admit this was my first taste test of this brand, and it was really good-rich, creamy, and cold.  The Skinny Cow Crew offered us Ice Cream through out  the movie. I found that to be so nice! Better than over salted popcorn for sure.

After the movie the attendees were given a cute pink Skinny Cow Swag bag, inside was a Tshirt, poster and coupons! What a great way to end a Girl's Night Out.

To find out if the event is in your area go to http://www.skinnycow.com/dirtydancingevents/. It's a free event and a great way to start Summer watching a movie filmed in the Mountains of New York at a Summer Vacation Spot.

Head over to Skinny Cow on Facebook to play their instant win game. You can play three times a day!
Good Luck!!!

I saw Dallas at Ritz East in Philadelphia last night!

Last night I watched the show Dallas, you know the show that was on years ago, well it's gonna be back on televison on  TNT June 13, 2012. And yes there are some new players.  Two of them were at the theater.

Julia Gonzalo and Jordana Brewster Q and A

When we arrived at Ritz East we signed in and were given free popcorn and a drink! Which was good since we missed dinner time to get to the show on time.  There was a nice crowd at the theater, and the staff was very helpful and friendly.  The audience viewed an episode of the show.

The show begins June 13, at 9 PM EST on TNT.

PS: head over to Genesis Moments and watch for more screenings coming up!
