Giveaway: OVERATED by Eugene Cho. A book of change.

It's mighty easy to like a page or send out a tweet for a cause we care about, but what action do we take after that? It's not enough to share our thought on changing the world-there has to be some action behind it. Watch the video from the author of OVERATED fill us in on making change happen.

If you are interested in a copy of this book for yourself, leave a comment on this post for your chance to win the book. One winner will be randomly selected.

official web site

Giveaway: Leave a comment on this blog post for your chance to win this book sent from the company.

About the book:We all want to change the world, but as pastor Eugene Cho found out, it takes more than just desire. It takes action. In this personal confession he encourages readers to discover a practical discipleship that begins with the recognition that changing the world starts with changing ourselves. Many people today talk about justice, but are they living justly?

They want to change the world, but are they being changed themselves? Eugene Cho shares his story, a messy, painful story of being more in love with the ideas behind the actions than counting the cost and being a world-changer in action. Because everyone loves justice and compassion, but few have taken it upon themselves to truly live it out in their own lives. Cho is still on that journey to discover what it means, and invites readers to join him.

About the author: Eugene is the founder and visionary of One Day’s Wages, a grassroots movement of people, stories, and actions to alleviate extreme global poverty. He is the founder and senior pastor of Quest Church, an urban, multicultural, and multigenerational church in Seattle, Washington. Eugene and his wife, Minhee, have three children.

Two daughters. Two colleges. One Mom's experience to get to move in day.

My parents went to college way back when, and when I was in high school, going to college was understood. My brother, sister and I all attended college, three different colleges, because, well, we are three different people.

I have two daughters, one has graduated from college and one is a junior in college this year. Each child is different in their personality, interests, and social circles.

When my oldest was a Junior in high school, she began the process to find a college she liked best. Luckily she chose the one I liked best too! Both girls did!

As a high school student, their guidance department works with college bound students to keep them on track for applying for scholarships, deadlines, visitations, recommendation letters from their teachers, essay writing, and applying to college. But as a mom, I kept a close watch on those requirements too.

To begin the college process at home, we designated a basket to store all the incoming mail related to colleges. We registered for open houses and campus visits at their top picks. Go to these with your child.  As a parent, you will be looking for different issues than your child will be, such as security vs social life.

My youngest also chose a small private college as did her sister, but in another state, they are two different people! She played more of a role in the process of finding and applying to college than her sister, or maybe I was more relaxed at the process.

She lived in a castle her first year, sans elevator to the top floor of dorm rooms.

How we successfully applied, became accepted, and landed at college:

Communicate: with your child, the guidance department, and colleges for deadlines, required forms, and transcripts. Sign up for application tips.

Chose campuses to visit. Register for open houses and attend them with your child, we went as a family. If one college looks like their top pick, attend an open house more than once, say Spring and Fall. Oh, yeah-visit the bookstore too!

Test Taking: Register for tests that your child will need to take to apply for college. Have them take these tests more than one time if available. Use study guides and test prep resources.

Network with other parents: Look to facebook for test and application help. Join a parents networking group at the college they attend.
Follow #journeytocollege for tons of resources to make the process run smoothly.

This is my second born on move in day of her freshman year.

With lots of communciation and college and test prep resources available to college bound students, you'll be at move in day before you know it!

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post for SheSpeaks/Kaplan Test Prep. I received compensation to write this post, and any opinions expressed are my own, and reflect my actual experience.

It's Child Passenger Safety Week. Find a FREE car seat check in your area, Plus more free resources.

Child Passenger Safety Week September 14 through 20, 2014.
Before you bring your newborn home from the hospital you have to install the car seat. Correctly. As your child grows, child seats change. From the newborn car seat to a booster seat, please be sure, really sure, that the seat is installed correctly in your vehicle.

Did you know that motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for children age 1 to 13 in the USA? The fatality rate could be reduced by about half if the correct child safety seat were always used.
Parents and caregivers should be sure to register their child’s car seat with the manufacturer so as to be informed in the event of a recall.
Here are resources to help you correctly install and use the seats safely.
o   Installation Resources: If a car seat is not installed correctly, your child's safety could be in danger. Every car seat has different installation instructions. Find out more at safecargov

o   Free Car Seat Checks: During Child Passenger Safety Week, there will be more than 600 events in 45 states across the country, where certified child passenger safety technicians will inspect car seats and show parents and caregivers how to correctly install and use them. In most cases, this service is free of charge.  Locate a car seat check event safecargov

Research shows that three out of every four car seats are not used correctly, meaning the child is not in the correct car seat for their age, height and weight, or the car seat is not installed correctly. In 2012, over one third (37%) of children killed in car crashes were not in car seats or wearing seat belts.

Car Seat Safety Tips:
·         Find a car seat that fits your child. As children grow, how they sit in your car will change. Make sure the car seat you purchase is designed to fit your child’s current size and age.
·         Not all car seats fit in all vehicles so test the car seat you plan to buy to make sure it fits well in your vehicle.
·         Before putting your child in a car seat, read the manufacturer’s instructions so you know how your car seat works.
·         All-in-One car seats offer you the advantage of using the same seat for the following positions: rear-facing, forward-facing with harness, then booster. These seats typically have higher height and weight limits for the rear-facing position, allowing you to keep your child rear-facing for a longer period of time.
·         Remember, the best car seat is the one that fits your child properly, is easy to use, and fits in your vehicle correctly. The information here can help you choose the right seat for your child. Keep in mind that:
o   Your child under age 1 should always ride in a rear-facing car seat.
o   Children ages 1-3 should be kept rear-facing as long as possible.
o   Keep your child in the back seat at least through age 12.
o   Be certain you've installed your car seat correctly by having it checked at an inspection station or by a certified child passenger safety technician. Bring the Car Seat Instructions AND the Vehicle Owner’s Manual with you to a seat check appointment!

Come to the Twitter party on September 17, 2014 beginning at 3 PM use the hashtag:  #TheRightSeat for more info and share your child car seat thoughts.

Giveaway: OH MY, OH NO! By Lisa Charrier. A whimsical story book for little ones we love.

OH MY, OH NO! is a darling book for Moms to read to their little ones, and Dad's will enjoy reading the book aloud to children getting a glimpse into Motherhood. Written by Lisa Charrier, each page of the book is illustrated by Agnes Domergue in full color and whimsy for ages 2-6.

Does your young child want to do exactly what you do? Imitating us drinking our morning coffee or tea, mopping the floor, trying on your makeup to be just like you. It's funny how children watch what we do, and then re-enact that task. It doesn't always turn out so well. Make up put on by a toddler looks much different that the make up we put on ourselves. Right!

Our children imitate from what they see us do,in the end a hug is all we need to share love for each other, so remember your children are watching and learning from you, be sure to show them your love even if you have to clean the kitchen up, again.

OH,MY, OH NO! Is a perfect gift for baby showers, new parents, and birthday gifts for little ones. Holiday time is nearing too! Look for it where you buy books.

Visiting colleges this year? Put Campus Book Store Rentals on your list and save 40 to 90% off bookstore prices.

If you have a high school Senior headed off to college or a college student now, then I highly recommend using Campus Book Rentals for text books and this is why:

Our oldest daughter was a Biology major in college and the text books were over $1000.00 per semester when we purchased them from the bookstore. Thankfully we found out about renting text books and that saved at least half that cost.

Our second child is in college now and she rents her books every semester, now that we are educated on text book renting! If your son or daughter is planning on going to college soon or if you have a child in college now, then visit campusbookrentals.com and save your money!

Campus Book Rentals web site is so easy to use!

Grab the glasses honey, our wine is here from Uncorked Ventures!

Red or white?  I lean to the white wine side, and my husband leans to the red, white, or what ever pairs well with the menu. Autumn feels like the time to relax from the Summer, slow down, enjoy the weekends of warm days and cool nights, and sip away exploring wine.

Brothers in law, Mark Aselstine and Matt Krause founded Uncorked Ventures where they carefully select wine from California, Oregon, and Washington and make available to purchase from their wine club, gift baskets, and wine gifts.

Their wine club offers three levels, Explorations, Special Selections, and Reserve Selections. Each shipment contains 2 to 3 bottles of wine. Plus as a wine club member there are other perks such as discounts or re-orders, newsletter, and special offers.

My wine club shipment contained two bottles of wine, a white-Yay for me, from BRAVIUM WINES, White Wedding. Located in San Francisco, on Treasure Island. A mix of Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc grapes that goes well with or without food. My choice is with cheese and table water crackers sitting around the fire pit with friends.

The second bottle of wine is a red, EASTON WINES, H House Red. Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grapes from the Sierra Foothills. We liked both wines for dinner time, or an after dinner glass of wine. I'm still going with the white though-I'll work on the red...

Visit Uncorked Ventures for your wine needs, gifts, and holiday shopping.
Keep in touch on Facebook and Twitter.

THE IDENTICAL is in theaters today. See the video and my review!

I was able to view this film ahead of today, and at first glance I thought it was about Elvis. Lucky for me it's not about him at all. Did you think that too?

I was pleasantly surprised at how good the film is. It's not all about rock and roll as  I had thought. But it's about a family's love for their son.

A poor couple gives birth to twin boys. Their strong faith allows them to find a better life for one of their sons. Jobs are scarce and they can't manage two children.

The couple gives one son to a minister's family that has no children.

To recite Bible verses he sings the lessons in a way he can remember. His father wants nothing to do with singing for his son, but to answer the call to ministry.

The son answers the call to singing, and leaves home. He
travels from place to place performing and living a life of fame and money.

Does he find his way back home? Yes, and that's the strong message I took from the film.

Family and Faith.

The film is full of famous Actors: Ashley Judd, Seth Green, Blake Rayne.

Make a night out with your loved one take the older kids, or a youth group night. See it this weekend in a theater near you. Don't forget the popcorn!
