I was able to view this film ahead of today, and at first glance I thought it was about Elvis. Lucky for me it's not about him at all. Did you think that too?
I was pleasantly surprised at how good the film is. It's not all about rock and roll as I had thought. But it's about a family's love for their son.
A poor couple gives birth to twin boys. Their strong faith allows them to find a better life for one of their sons. Jobs are scarce and they can't manage two children.
The couple gives one son to a minister's family that has no children.
To recite Bible verses he sings the lessons in a way he can remember. His father wants nothing to do with singing for his son, but to answer the call to ministry.
The son answers the call to singing, and leaves home. He
travels from place to place performing and living a life of fame and money.
Does he find his way back home? Yes, and that's the strong message I took from the film.
Family and Faith.
