Save the chopping, mixing and clean up at dinner time with Old El Paso ready to cook frozen meals.

I've got a stash in my freezer for our next Old El Paso night.
Pass the margaritas please!!!

Watch Chef Johnathan taste the flavors of Mexico and how he found his  inspiration for Old El Paso frozen entrees:

Preparing the meal is a time saver and kitchen clean up saver.

We dined on two different entrees because I am more of a chicken person and the Mr. likes the steak and peppers. What did we think? Fresh taste, flavorful, and I'd buy them again. Nice corn flavor and the chicken was great.

Old El Paso Steak Fajitas meal for two:
makes 6 Fajitas with ingredients of seasoned fire roasted onions, beef steak strips and fire roasted red and green bell peppers. Ready to eat?

How to prepare:

Warm 6, 6 inch size Old El Paso flour tortillas for soft tacos and fajitas.
Pour the contents of the bag into a 10 inch non stick skillet.
Cook on med-med high heat for 10 to 13 minutes stirring often
Cook the beef steak and vegetable thoroughly.
Serve on tortillas.

Old El Paso Chicken Burritos meal for two:
Chicken burritos are made with salsa Verde, seasoned chicken rice, black beans, and cheese all wrapped in a flour tortilla.

How to cook:

place 1 burrito in un opened wrapper with the steam side down on a microwavable safe plate.
Microwave on high 4 mins or so until it's heat through.
let stand 2 minutes to let the burrito finish cooking.
cut open wrapper with scissors-be careful-the filling will be hot.
also be careful of the steam when you cut open the wrapper and while eating the burrito.

Set your table with colorful dishes, fancy glasses, and let the music play for your Old El Paso meal time. Spend more time enjoying dinner and less time cleaning up the pots and pans.

New Giveaway of MUST HAVE MARVIN! a new book from Shine Bright Kids.

Must-Have Marvin! The Shine Bright Kids series teaches kids the importance of making good choices, from the author of Can't-Wait Willow, Christy Ziglar.

This book is a 10x10 inches size with a really cool raised glittery title. The robot in Marvin's hand is also glittery. The illustrations are very colorful and done by Luanne Marten. The book is for children 4-8 years of age but of course you can read it yourself or read it to any age child. The Shine Bright Kids series is from Ideals Children's Books.  My Mom and Grandmother always had Ideals books for the holidays and I loved to page through the beautiful pictures.

Did you know you can visit Ideals on Facebook and on their web site? Hippity Hoppity the Easter Bunny is on his way and Ideals books make the prefect gift for Easter Baskets and gifts. I just love the illustrations of the books. Ideals books for holidays are some of the best gifts too for Mother's day or any day.

Marvin is a bit of a collector of things. He wants a lot of stuff. That stuff gets in the way of his friendships. On each page there is a star the kids can follow through the book. Each page the star is in a different mood- you can see by the expression on his face. You can discus why the star is in that mood and talk about what Marvin should do to invest in his friendships not buying things.  In the end Marvin realizes he only needs and want friends not all that stuff. Perhaps a good lesson for any age!

About Must-Have Marvin!
The second title in the Shine Bright Kids series, Must-Have Marvin! teaches children that people are more important than things.
Marvin loves new things—he especially loves finding the latest, greatest, most awesome new things! Soon Marvin finds himself focusing on a new robot that he wants, to the exclusion of his friends. He lets them down when they need his help and nearly loses their friendship.
Through a chat with a wise neighbor and a second chance to help, Marvin learns the important life lesson that people are more important than things.

Author Bio
Christy Ziglar, financial planner, mother of twins and niece of legendary motivator and the world’s original optimist, Zig Ziglar, is bringing the same timeless wisdom and ageless advice to an entirely new, younger audience through her new Shine Bright Kids picture book series.

Illustrator Bio

Thanks to her first-grade teacher, who recognized her superior skills in drawing a robin, Luanne Marten  has been drawing, painting, and sketching ever since. She is a great experimenter and has a fresh, whimsical approach that brings her characters to life.

Book Review of When The Cypress Whispers, a novel by Yvette Manessis Corporon

UWhen The Cypress Whispers by Yvette Manessis Corporon is the story of a young woman named Daphne and the special bond she shares with her Greek Grandmother, also known in Greek as her Yia-yia. The book is based on the authors relationship with her Yia-yia. Growing up her Yia-yia told her real life stories of how her grandmother befriended a Jewish girl named Rosa whose family was hiding form the Nazis. Can you imagine a life like that-having to hide yourself and family in another country. Each and every day they had to keep that a secret.

The families of the island kept the secret from the Nazis, and told no one that the family was hiding on the Greek island of Erikousa. The island families took a risk in not telling the Nazis that the Jewish family was amongst them because the Nazis made it clear that anyone hiding Jews would be killed along with their family.

Each night the author's Grandmother would open her doors to her home and welcome Rosa inside for comfort and friendship. Yvette Manessis Corporon grandmother told her stories of Rosa as she was growing up, and now she shares them in When The Cypress Whispers.

Yvette Manessis Corporon spent her childhood Summers in Greece with her extended family. She spent days swimming in the Ionian Sea, riding a donkey, dancing, and listening to family stories around the fire. Living in New York City, she is a Senior Producer with the television show, EXTRA (which I love to watch when my husband is working late)  and has interviewed many celebrities and news makers-asking them what it feels like to achieve their dream. After years of asking other people what it was like-she realized her dream. The Cypress Whispers is her dream. In her book she shares her memories, legends, and relationships that are the most important, special, and sacred.

In this video Yvette Manessis Corporon  personally shares about the book and offers you the question:

Whose voice do you hear when the Cypress Whispers?

Who is that one special person in your life? That one person you might not see everyday, but you think of often, that one person that watches over you in body or spirit. That one person that is with you in your heart.

My special person is my Grandmother. She passed away years ago, but I think of her often, her wisdom, her strength as a woman,, wife, and mother, and her loving home with all the sounds and smells of her house. In happy times and sad times it's her I think of.

What is your dream?

If you are living your dream, working on your dream, or haven't quite figured out your dream as of yet, remember to keep those special people in your life close to you, and take the time to listen to their stories it might just help your dream become bigger than you imagined!

Take time to listen to the wind blowing through the Cypress trees or the trees where you are.  Refresh your outlook, refresh your body, and refresh your soul.
Pick up a copy of the book and discover the life of these families, their struggles, their bonds, and their dreams. Perhaps you'll discover your own dream if you listen to the Cypress Whisper.

Remember books make great gifts and Mother's day is coming up!

The book is hard to put down to start dinner, but take time to read it. Imagine yourself on the warm island and the blue sea, big family meals with fresh food prepared by your Yia-yia, and evening story telling around the cozy fire. It's a hard life, but a full life because of family.

Book review of SUBURBAN HAIKU: Poetic Dispatches from Behind the Picket Fence

It's Friday, it's the second day of Spring, and I just read a book. Off to a good start I'd say. Now if I could get the laundry done, and the dishes put away before dinner time that would be some accomplishment.

The book I read this morning is titled SUBURBAN HAIKU: Poetic Dispatches from Behind the Picket Fence. Do you know what a haiku is? It's a 17-syllable, three line poem. I took a creative writing class in high school and we wrote haiku poems, not that I was good at it, but those three lines of a poem had to hold very meaningful words. It was one topic of the class I actually enjoyed, so when I saw the title of this book I knew I wanted to read it.

The book is written by Petyon Price, a mom living in a suburban neighborhood. Can you relate? I can. We moved into our neighborhood while it was still being built so I think the families all had a common bond, new house, new neighbors, new ways to see how each other decorated, what kind of cars we drove, and who had the biggest house.  Reading the book I knew what the author was writing about right away, and it was so true, funny, but so true.

Poetic dispatches from behind the picket fence is spot on. Being a SAHM has it's ups and downs, as I am sure working moms do also-I did work out of the home for a few year-so I've been both kinds of moms, but mostly a mom at home. I laughed the whole way through the book. It's like I'm reading about my own life!

In her book, Peyton writes haiku poems about the daily life of a SAHM, the cooking, cleaning, errands, car pools, PTA, sporting events. She also writes about the not cooking (looking at pinterst), not cleaning-(the cat is taking a nap on her so she can't get up) car pools-she is it since she is the mom at home in the neighborhood.

The book is in three parts, she writes about the daily life of being a stay at home mom, being bored, lazy, too busy, procrastinating chores, her neighbors, houses for sale, the neighborhood by laws, kids of all ages and their food issues, their need for an iphone, sproting events, all those water bottles she bought and the kids lost anyway.

Read about school issues, bake sales, SUV;s, who's lawn is the greenest, parties, and everyday life in suburbia. And yes, it's familar topics, and yes she is writing about me, or you, but it's her life she writes about and it's a great book.

If you've just moved into Suburbia or have been living in Suburbia way past the - we should have moved long ago, have a new neighbor, or want to have a laugh with your girlfriends, you'll most likely enjoy reading this book. I sure did.

SUBURBAN HAIKU: Poetic Dispatches from Behind the Picket Fence is a nice gift for anytime of the year, any stay at home mom, or mom in general. Pick a few copies up and give them to moms you know for Mother's day this year.

Peyton Price is living the American dream in suburbia, along with her devoted husband, two above-average children, bonehead dog, uppity cat, and six-year-old hermit crab. Nosy neighbors can spy on her at

Disclosure: I received a copy of suburban Haiku from the publisher for this review. The comments and views are my own.

In an exciting return to the great car culture films of the 1960s and ’70s that tap into what makes the American myth of the open road so enticing, “Need for Speed” chronicles a near-impossible cross-country race against time — one that begins as a mission for revenge, but proves to be one of redemption.

After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finds Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, D.C. and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Day 15 of USA in a day. Cooking with cast iron pans.

Day 15 of USA in a Day

I've been looking through my house to see where things are made.
If I find an item made in USA I'll be sharing it here.

To read days 1-14 go to the USA in a Day tab.

One of the most useful pans in my kitchen is a cast iron frying pan. I have several cast iron frying pans in different sizes that get used daily. From breakfast time eggs, to a grilled cheese sandwich at lunch, to a  main dish at dinner, these cast iron pans are great for stove top or oven cooking.

The pan in the photo was made by Griswold from Erie Pennsylvania. The only infomration I found on this company was ebay listings for the skillets.

Tupperware. Durable, useful, and found in most kitchens.

Tervis tumblers keep your beverages cold for a long time!
Available in a variety of sizes, designs, and logos.

Pyrex bowls, casseroles, and measuring cups have been in kitchens and keeping up with the times with changes in styles and colors.
I prefer the older Pyrex bowls to the new clear glass bowls.

Those confident third graders are back in a new movie, "The Little Rascals Save The Day"

The Little Rascals are at it again. This lively bunch of Sparky, Alfalfa, Mary Ann, Stymie, Petey-the dog, Porky, Darla, and Buckwheat take word meanings a bit to far sometimes.   For example when they watch Grandma's bakery while she runs to the bank, the gang takes an order for a cake. In a big bowl they add all kinds of ingredients-whole eggs-shell and all. They add tons of sugar, yeast, and motor oil-they just think any oil is right for cooking. You can imagine how it turns out!

Grandma is played by Doris Roberts who we know as the mom in  "Everybody Loves Raymond". She owns the local bakery but is in a bind with the bank and her business. Once this gang of third graders finds out about the bakery trouble the put a plan into action to earn money to keep Grandma's bakery out of the hands of businessman Big Ray (Greg Germann of Here Comes the Boom).

The Little Rascals have an elaborate tree house next to the bakery where they hold band practice. The sound is not pleasing to the ear, but after  failed attempts  to raise money for Grandma's bakery they hold out Hope to win prize money in the local talent show.
How do you think they did?

The movie opens with the gang on the last day of school and Alfalfa singing to the class. Well, trying to sing. So, winning the talent show might be a stretch! Watch the movie to see if Grandma's bakery can be saved.

The Little Rascals Save The Day is available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD so you can watch it most anywhere on your devices. On March 18, 2014 you can own the movie on Digital HD and The Blu-Ray Combo Pack including Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD with Ultraviolet on April 1, 2014.  See deleted scenes from the movie, and more bonus features.
