Doesn't that title just make your want to know what in the world that's about? The book's cover states it's about finding "secrets to finding the magnificence in your life". Sounds good to me, what do you think?
Written by Steve Shenk who is a well known philosopher, educator, food expert and and entrepreneur. This book was written to share the secrets of finding the magnificence within ourselves. It's about taking control of your own life. How to survive, how to prosper, and how to have fulfilling relationships.
The book is easy to read, but a lot to think about. He asks the question of who am I-meaning who are you? Can you answer that one? I have to think about an answer for that! We all have a mental picture of ourselves, but is that who we are?
The book opens with meetings of a man named Michael, and a mentor, the Guardian. Each day we have the chance to be happy, to not remember the past disappointments, so why do we??? The guardian shows us in the book that feelings of guilt, pain, and helplessness are not our fault. The guardian shows Michael (who could be your or I) how to get rid of those feelings, and how to find happiness in his life.
Michael is watching television when the guardian appears on the screen. Michael asks the guardian who he is, and he replies, he is the messinger of light and wisdom to students that are ready to learn. They begin by looking at why people do the things they do even though it's not working. Why do people make their lives so hard over and over again?
Some of the chapters in the book discuss people that have big buts-as in they always have an excuse why they did not do what they want to do. Self image, Judgement, love, and more chapters are in this book. The chapter on gratitude is found at the back of the book. Here there are several quotes from the author on how gratitude is an attitude. If people had gratitude we could all live in peace.
This book is definitely a self help kind of book in my reading of it. Simple ideas, to find a happier, joyful life are discussed throughout the book. You can join the online community and get the Guardian newsletter with the purchase of the book. Visit www.steveshenk.me and www.itsnotyourfault.TV for inspirational stories and discussions.
