Disclosure: I attended this screening with a media pass. The comments and views are my own.
Wednesday night I went to an advanced screening to see the film "After Earth" staring Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith. As in real life, in the movie they are father and son.
First of all- the thought of "After Earth" is a bit scary-right. In the film they crash land on "Earth" but it is not earth as we know it now. It's only animals, people are not there-here. Cypher (Wil Smith) is the General and his son Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) is training to be a ranger.
There are some parts of the film that are startling. I saw a few people including myself do one of those yikes moments caught off guard a few times during the film. watch the trailer below to see a bit of the film.
The film has a great story of Father/Son relationships, but the part I took most out of the movie was how Kitai's dad tells him about fear and danger. Fear is not real, it is not here, but danger is. Kitai has to overcome fear in order to save his father and self after the aircraft they are traveling in crashes onto earth. Perhaps we all should heed that lesson-and not let fear be a part of our lives.
The film opens Friday May 31, 2013, It's a hot weekend so go cool off at the theater. It's also near Father's day, take your Dad to see the film.
About the Movie:Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) is training to be a great Ranger like his father Cypher (Will Smith). He has immense talent and skill, but his strained relationship with his father has also left him reckless and angry. When a crash landing leaves Kitai and a wounded Cypher stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after events forced humanity's escape, father and son must learn to listen and to trust one another in order to survive and signal for help.
Cast:Will Smith, Jaden Smith, Zoe Kravitz, Isabelle Fuhrman
