Who can get the Easter Bunny song out of their head in Spring Time?! Here comes Peter Cotton tail hopping down the bunny trail,Hippity Hoppity Easter's on it's way. And it is on it's way.. at last.
As a mom I've been focused on kids books for so long, that now I'm reading books for me. Less pictures, more words, although pictures are nice.
For this Easter Season I have been reading a book with a collection of stories by well know authors like: C.S. Lewis, Elizabeth Goudge, Leo Tolstoy, Oscar Wilde, Ruth Sawyer, Anton Chekhov, and other authors.
Three of my favorite stories in the book, Easter Stories are "The Legend of Christophorus" by Hans Thomas- on page 171, "The Rag Man" by Walter Wangerin Jr- on page 313, and Mary's Child by The Brothers Grim-on page 339.
My Dad and my husband both wear Saint Christopher Medals, so when I read the story of Christophorus that was very special, and enlightening! Christophours was so driven to find the one who rules, he followed the one who claimed he was ruler of the world, but it was the ruler totally opposite God. Thank God, he found God and followed him!
The Rag Man is a story about a man who follows the Ragman wondering what he is doing with so many rags, until the follower realizes it is Christ taking care of everyone.
Mary's Child is a story about the Virgin Mary caring for a girl. She instructs her not to open the forbidden door while Mary was away, but the girl opens the door. Mary asked her if she opened the door and the girl told her no. So many times she does not tell Mary the truth that she opened one on the doors to heaven with the keys. The girl hides in the forest and is found by a King that takes her back to his castle where they are married and she is now the Queen. But, Mary continues to ask her the truth about the key to heaven, and she denies it, so Mary takes her children until the Queen finally asks for forgiveness.
The book has many more wonderful stories of faith I am enjoying reading mid day, usually around the time I would have been running over to pick up the girls from school, but they can drive themselves now. This quiet time to myself with a good book does the soul wonders.
