Two weeks ago I drove to Hershey, Pennsylvania to The Pennsylvania Sate University Medical Center. I did not have an appointment or test scheduled. I was there to see my great nieces. 1, 2, babies, as their sister says! (also known as twins)
There was a need for a stay a this hospital for one twin.
I've been here before, years ago, to say goodbye to my nephew as the angels in heaven came for him.
As I walked off the elevator onto the NICU floor it was all too familiar.
Another time in life, and yet, here we are, again.
I am happy to say all is well with the baby girls.
I also would like to tell you that the floor we were on had two big family rooms. These are Ronald McDonald House Charity Family Rooms. The one room had several couches that one could stretch out on, sleep on, or sit and be quiet. There were hand made blankets, sheets, and pillows for the parents to use. There was a bathroom-a full bathroom to take a shower. A washer and dryer too. The other room housed a kitchen, snacks, coffee, drinks, and tables and chairs. I had a nice icy cold drink of water after my two hour drive and was glad to get a cup for my mom too.
I know my niece and nephew did stay overnights in the family room and for that I am thankful they could be close by their newborn.
Ronald McDonald House Charities® of the Philadelphia Region, Inc. (RMHC®) will hold it's 7th Annual “Change the Luck of a Child” Telethon live on CBS 3 and the CW Philly on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
I plan on donating 3 Blarney dogs in memory of my nephew, and in honor of my two great nieces. I can't tell you how much that family room means to me, it's tearful, and I am so very thankful it's there for families, like mine. It's one of those times in life, that you say to yourself, this doesn't happen in my family, but guess what it does, it did.
Your purchase and/or donation helps provide comforts such as the family room and a home away from home for parents to be near their seriously ill child, as well as other services for children.
