Just looking at the cover of this book, I imagine I can feel the heat coming from the kitchen as I near the screen door, maybe an afternoon plate of cookies is on the table?
When I viewed the trailer I felt comfort like my own family gives me, like memories of sunny, hot days where you just want to be still it's so hot or head to a body of water to cool off. Country life and country living I suppose I long for, not that I grew up in the country, but many a times we visited relatives that lived on a farm and those are special memories with family.
The screen doors creaking open and slamming shut, the open windows that let a slight breeze in through the quiet, dark house where everyone was kinda of in slow motion because it was so hot. Those are memories of my grandparents lifestyle, and I miss that.
The two sisters in "When we last Spoke" were orphaned as their father went to war, and their mother left them at the grandparents house.
Why would their mother leave them in someone else's care? That's a lot to ask of someone, I guess that's why she can't be found after she drops the girls off at the Grandparents. I have a sister and glad I grew up with her, we text, talk, and see each other more as our parents age. I'm glad we have each other.
Enough of my thoughts, watch the trailer and imagine yourself living in Fireside, Texas. I sure did.
Where to purchase the book:
About When We Last Spoke (from the back cover):
"Humor, heartbreak, and triumph are served with whipped cream and lots of local nuts in this heartwarming tale of family, friendship, and forgiveness in Fireside, Texas.
Meet Juliet Cranbourne, local radio personality and owner of a whimsical kitchen gadget store, and her sister Evangeline, a fruit tree geneticist who works for Oregon State University.
When a rift due to their orphaned past affects their sisterhood, Juliet convinces Evangeline to come home for Christmas and choose headstones to honor grandparents Walt
(a tenderhearted, good looking rancher) and Ruby (a blue-ribbon fiddler, fabulous cook, and expert in the art of making family feel loved). As they cruise through Fireside in Ruby's
Thunderbird, Juliet hopes that healing memories will somehow smooth rough roads ahead.
Does the tremendous love that marked Walt and Ruby's lives still have the power to renew their sisterhood and help them find their place in the world?"
