Book Review of When The Cypress Whispers, a novel by Yvette Manessis Corporon

UWhen The Cypress Whispers  by  Yvette Manessis Corporon is the story of a young woman named Daphne and the special bond she shares with her Greek Grandmother, also known in Greek as her Yia-yia. The book is based on the authors relationship with her Yia-yia. Growing up her Yia-yia told her real life stories of how her grandmother befriended a Jewish girl named Rosa whose family was hiding form the Nazis. Can you imagine a life like that-having to hide yourself and family in another country. Each and every day they had to keep that a secret. The families of the island kept the secret from the Nazis, and told no one that the family was hiding on the Greek island of Erikousa. I have two lovely daughters. Being pregnant with them was not lovely. With my first child I was sick after the first month. Morning, Noon, and Night I felt awful. It was 24 hour a day morning sickness. The second pregnancy was worse. I became so dehydrated I spent a night in the hospital being re hydrated. Thank God for the two great kids I have after all those days and nights of "morning sickness". Since I spent a lot of time resting during those 9 months- twice, I got my hands on anything I could to figure out why I was sick, what to do, and what to eat. I found the perfect pregnancy book and I literally slept with it under my pillow. I read that book cover to cover, looked up symptoms and read about the coming months. But what about after pregnancy, when the baby is here? There were questions I had not thought of nor questions and answers I could easily find.
